Xavier Lopez, owner of Bike Basque:

After having graduated in business and spending 8 years as a competitive racing cyclist,
Xavier decided to spend

2 years in London.

During those 2 years he realised just how popular cycling in the UK had become and
it seemed a natural progression to combine his passion by organising cycling holidays
in the Pyrenées for cyclists all over the world.

Why the Pyrenées and the Basque country ?

Xavier, originally a Parisian, has spent most of his holidays in the Basque Country,
mainly due to his family living in the region and also because he owns a “pied a terre”
in Biarritz.
It was when he started cycling, at the age of 15 that he really had the opportunity to discover
the region’s sheer beauty and the huge variety of cycling routes it had to offer, especially
during the summer and during the February training camps he organized each year from
his home in Biarritz.
Since then he has developed a real knowledge of the region and its most attractive roads
and locations for cycling.

Nigel Hale-Hunter, guide of Bike Basque:

Nigel loves cycling and discovery—put both together and he’s in heaven. Nigel
is a former successful national level marathon, mountain bike and road competitor,
a qualified ABCC Cycling Coach Level 3 and a MIAS Mountain Bike Guide and Leader.
He is extremely fond of the freedom and adventure that cycling gives him and wants
to help others experience the same.
“After a number of years competing at a national level, I decided to advance my
coaching and guiding knowledge in order to help others achieve their sporting
potential in a structured, time sensitive and safe manner.”
